Potluck
This Friday we will be having a Potluck lunch. All students are encouraged to bring a dish. To make our potluck successful we need many foods such as pasta, soup, meatballs, Chicken wings, salads, pizza, wraps and of course hummus. Some dessert foods are fine but we want to make sure we have enough lunch type foods so the students aren't filling up on junk. If you have a fantastic specialty we would love to try it.
Thanks, Mr.M

Thanks to the great organization of the 7M class and the support of our staff and students our Movember fundraiser was a great success. Our one day fundraiser raised approximately $150 to help support my Movember campaign. Thanks to Dalal and Dhruvit for their fantastic announcements and to all who helped out and donated. Supporting charity is great way to help others and build character. What are some other ways to be a better citizen? Post a comment with your thoughts?

Happy Weekend
Hi 7M, I wanted wish everyone a happy weekend. Today was a great day at the cross country meet and hopefully an equally great day reading and walking the trail. Big shout outs to our 7M cross country runners Matt, Khuloud, Richie, Isiah, Jaunee and lets not forget Nick. These runners had a fantastic season and it was great to see all of them have such a great final meet. Next week will be a busy one. We will finish our Prezi presentations, prepare for our geometry unit test and keep working hard on our Stormbreaker novel studies. Remember you have until Monday to get your fundraising money in and be prepared for a new Halloween Jib Jab next week, featuring a whole new cast of characters.

Welcome to 7M
Welcome to an exciting new year at Talbot Trail. Grade 7 should be an action packed year full of many opportunities. Each new school year is a fresh start to set goals and push yourself to be a be the best student and person that you can be. This is the same for me, every September I set goals and try to do things a little bit better than I did them in the previous year.
I am so thrilled to be your teacher this year. For some it will be our second time together and for others it will be our first meeting. I hope to get to know all of you very well and develop great working relationships. I will give you my best each and every day and expect the same in return from you. Together we will laugh, learn, sweat, discover and explore. There will be amazing experiences as well as challenging ones. The best we can do is our very best and make sure to "bring it" everyday.
Let's have an amazing year!

What is a blog?
Blogs are short for Web logs. These are online journals or diaries. Blogs can be public or private, entertaining or educational. Students can use blogs to practise writing and communication skills; teachers can use them to post assignments, share thoughts, stimulate classroom discussion, and more
10 reasons why teachers should have a class blog.
1. It is an effective parent/teacher communication tool.
2. Provides an organization resource for students to access.
3. Provides students and teachers to reflect on learning.
4. Showcases the amazing things teachers and students do on a daily basis.
5. Motivates, excites and engages students to produce, perform and participate.
6. Allows students to collaborate with others.
7. Exposes students to using technology in the classroom.
8. Promotes reading.
9. Promotes writing.
10. Students are digital natives (blogging is a natural element of this.)
Bonus: It's fun!
Using classroom blogs meet most of the language curriculum expectations here are just a few:
Extending Understanding
1.6 extend understanding of texts, including increasingly complex or difficult texts, by
connecting the ideas in them to their own knowledge, experience, and insights, to other familiar texts, and to the world around them.
Purpose and Audience
1.1 identify the topic, purpose, and audience for more complex writing forms
Voice
2.2 establish a distinctive voice in their writing appropriate to the subject and audience
Preparing for Revision
2.6 identify elements in their writing that need improvement, selectively using feedback from the teacher and peers.
Producing Media Texts
3.4 produce a variety of media texts of some technical complexity for specific purposes and audiences, using appropriate forms, conventions, and techniques.
Here are some sites with more information on blogs:

Track Day
Yesterday was another exciting track and field day at Talbot Trail. 7M was well represented on the leaderboaord. Ahad swept overall first place finishes in the 100, 200, 400 and 800m races. Riley on the girl's side finished first in long and triple jump and second in the 100 and 200 m races. I love watching students work and practice hard and then see that hard work payoff. I look forward to see how we fair at the next track meet. What was your favourite part of the day?

Way to Go Canada!
The last 17 days I have been watching the television intently. Sometimes jumping off the couch cheering, sometimes yelling and even became choked up on a few occasions. The 2010 Vancouver Olympics was amazing for so many reasons. Records, joy, disappointment, tragedy all played their roles in making this a memorable Olympics but what made it even more exciting for me was the sense of pride that I have witnessed by so many Canadians. Canadians came together for something so positive. I can't remember a time where I have seen so many Canadian flags waving in our city, on cars, in windows and off buildings. I also can't recall a time when so many people have proudly worn Canada across their chests, on their heads and in many cases even on their faces. These Olympics didn't just make us cheer for sport, but made us remember to be proud to be Canadian. Lets hope the continues far beyond these Olympics. Go Canada!

Fat Tuesday
I'm making pancakes for Fat Tuesday! If anyone sees this and has four ripe bananas, can you please bring them to school tomorrow? My bananas are not ripe enough.
What is Fat Tuesday?
Fat Tuesday is Mardi Gras, the festival New Orleans, Louisiana, is famous for. "Gras" is French for fat and "Mardi" is French for Tuesday.
The annual festivities start on January 6, the Twelfth Night Feast of the Epiphany, when the three kings are supposed to have visited the Christ Child, and build to a climax on Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, which always occurs on the day before Ash Wednesday. The parties and parades will continue until Lent begins at the stroke of midnight on Tuesday.
Mardi Gras is a legal holiday in New Orleans. It is scheduled to occur 46 days before Easter. Since the actual date Easter occurs on changes yearly, Mardi Gras can happen on any Tuesday between February 3 and March 9.
For two centuries it has been an annual event in New Orleans, except during the two World Wars.
