Christmas Concert/Field trip

Christmas Concert
Today I was fortunate enough to hear our band play in the rehearsal of the Christmas concert. They are fantastic. Please join us tonight at 6:30 for this incredible event.

Field Trip
There has been a slight change in our field trip tomorrow. We will still be going bowling in the morning but will also receive a free movie in the afternoon (Disney's The Blindside). Your students will be bringing home a notice tonight.

Last night the Blazers Girls Volleyball team captured their third straight City Championship. This is a feat rarely accomplished by sports teams. The girls played all season with grit, passion and heart. The girls went undefeated in regular season play and cruised through the playoffs never losing a game. Two of our 7M Blazers represented our school and class amazingly all season. Our motto for Blazer Athletics is to "Bring It". This girls "Brought It" all season long. Way to go girls, I am proud to be one of your coaches.

Cereal Box Drive

The grade 4's are hosting a cereal box drive to benefit breakfast programs at inner city schools in our board. Many students come to school without having breakfast because it isn't readily available. Without this much needed energy in the morning students aren't ready for the long day ahead of them. These programs help feed these students in need. If we each bring in one box of cereal we will be providing many children with a good meal to start the day. Kudos to 4P for organizing the event. I challenge you 7M to each bring in one box of cereal each, are you up for it?

Oakwood Volleyball Tournament

The night started off with two great games against Oakwood. We won the first and lost the second. At our next two games we played Southwood which ended the same. After we played Southwood we had a 30 minute break to eat, and interact with other teams. We practiced outside a bit before the game and in that time Riley accidently managed to roof one of the Talbot Trail volleyballs. After that happened we went inside to play our next two games againest Anderdon, we won both of them, Abi managed to ace five serves in a row which gained the team five points! Finally, it was the quater-finals,the semi-finals, and then the finals. In the quater-finals we played Oakwood's # 2 team, who we beat. In the semi-finals we weren't so lucky. We lost 22-25 against Maranatha. For the third place position we had to play Southwood, who we beat. Talbot Trail was announced Third Place! Nikki won player of the day, and we did a great job!

Late post, sorry.

Homework was just the Stormbreaker decoding.
Sorry this post is so late. I was at the Girl's Volleyball tournament last night where the girls played fantastic. We took home the consolation championship. If it weren't for a very questionable call at the end of the semifinal game it could have been a tournament championship banner. The team played amazingly well for their first games and the 7M girls represented us very well!

Friday, October 2, 2009

We have started our action packed novel study Stormbreaker! Parents check out the synopsis.

So, could you save the world, if you really had to? Could you escape from a car crushing machine with seconds to spare, complete an SAS training course, dive through freezing underground waters in pitch darkness, parachute out of aeroplanes over London, tussle with man-killing jellyfish, and more?

Alex Rider can. But only because he has to. It isn't a deliberate career choice, exactly.

Only after his uncle, Ian Rider,?dies mysteriously in a car crash, does Alex begin to ponder the identity of the man who had looked after him since he was orphaned as a baby. Alex's preliminary investigations, which scared the life out of me, soon draw the attention of his uncle's former employers - none other than MI6. They've got a proposition for Alex:

'...The timing couldn't be better. You'll be able to meet Herod Sayle, keep an eye on him and tell us what you think. Perhaps you'll also find out what it was that your uncle discovered and why he had to die. You shouldn't be in any danger. After all, who would suspect a fourteen-year-old boy of being a spy?'

Looks like a deal is about to be struck. Alex can either go and rot in the nearest orphanage, or he can just do this little job for MI6:

'You're blackmailing me!' Alex exclaimed.

'Not at all.'

If it's?a fast-moving rough-and-tumble spy story you're after, with crazed arch-villain in search of world domination - or worse - then this is for you. I loved it! All the realism of a James Bond adventure, and no more improbable for having a teenage hero:

'Just remember, Alex Rider, you're never too young to die.'

Race Night in LaSalle

I love being in the classroom passing on knowledge and hearing the wisdom of our young scholars but one of the best parts of being a teacher is coaching. I relish in seeing the hard work of practise pay off. The smiling faces filled with satisfaction after completing a race or winning a big game. Tonight at the Sandwich Cross Country Meet our Talbot Trail team represented our school brilliantly. Our 7M students were a major part of the successful night.  All five came out with their game faces on and made their coaches and parents very proud. If tonight's achievements were any indication of the Blazer speed and power we will have a amazing city meet next Friday. Go Blazers!

New Perspective

As a teacher I have been blessed to see the bright shining faces of my students walk through my classroom doors each year ready to take on the challenge of another chapter in their school careers. This past week I was able to see things in a different light. My son Caleb started his journey in the academic world at our very own Talbot Trail. As a parent, not a teacher I am now truly able to appreciate the excitement, trepidation and curiosity  that parents must feel sending their children off each September. As a teacher it makes me want to be the type of teacher that I would want to teach my children. What an incredible opportunity it is for me to teach my students (your children) and to have my son begin to experience all the opportunities that our school provides.

Week one is done.

What an amazing first week. I am thrilled to have such a fantastic bunch of students this year. I love getting back into the groove of a fresh school year. The balanced day seems to make the days cruise by, I can only imagine what it will be like once we work out the minor bugs and things really get moving. Sports have started, the sun has been shining and everyone is so eager to be involved. My goal is for our class to keep up the momentum. As the next couple of weeks come and go you will probably feel overwhelmed by the amount of handouts going home, forms to be filled out and event after event happening at our school. We are very fortunate to have so many staff and volunteers who provide a plethora of activities for our students to enjoy. There is really something for everyone. As of right now, soccer and cross country tryouts are starting, bus and lunch monitors are being chosen, class computer cart monitors have been picked. In upcoming weeks student parliament and many other clubs and teams will be popping up so make sure you get involved! Have an incredible weekend, I am excited to be heading to the Michigan vs. Notre Dame game tomorrow in Ann Arbor (GO IRISH!)

How Balanced Day Is Working Out

In my opion balanced day is actually very fun. At first I wasn't to satasfied with 20 minutes less of recess and thinking the learning blocks were 100 minutes of one whole period of one subject but it is actually split into two different periods. I think a Balanced school day is healthy for all of us because less kids will go outside which cause less people to run into each other and there for making less students ending up in the office with an injury. I also think Balanced day is fun because it gives us a longer opportunity to eat and finish up our lunch. This also makes less litter on the playground and a more healthy school property. Before Balanced Day I would drop my lunch on the ground and then have throw it in the garbage and i would then be hungry for the rest of the day.

Welcome To Grade 7!

Well it's been a long summer filled with lots of fun and excitement. I am your grade 7 teacher Mr. Mousseau. I've had a busy and enjoyable summer but am geared up to take on another amazing year at the Trail. I spent the summer hanging out with my family, cycling, cottaging, reading and having epic battles with my superhero son Caleb. Although my summer has been a pleasant break from the teaching profession I have often found myself missing my students and life at Talbot Trail. This is a special year for me as I get to teach and witness the growth of many of my original TT students. I get to see the development from young innocent grade fours to the young leaders of our school. This blog is here to track homework, announce upcoming events and most importantly to communicate to our families the incredible things happening in our class and in our school. Let's have an amazing year and enjoy the grade seven journey.

Final Goodbye

Well it has been another great year at Talbot Trail. You guys will be a class to remember. I had so many wonderful moments this year and you are a very special group of kids. I want to thank you for all the laughs, fun, challenges and the many proud moments you all have given me this year. Believe it or not, I already miss you guys. I look forward to teaching you Phys-Ed next year, coaching many of you and seeing you graduate from the best school around. Have a safe and ACTIVE summer!

Those of you trying out for teams next year, remember to train hard this summer and work on your weaknesses!! I'm always watching! ha ha.

Also thank you for the many generous gifts and thoughtful cards. Again have a great summer and I'll see you all in September.

District Track

Another fantastic day for Talbot Trail at the District track and Field meet. 7M was represented fantastically by Ashley and Julia. Ashley had strong showings in all of her events, while Julia dominated the 1500 and the 800m races capturing first in both events and doing a great job in the 400m against some stiff competition. Way to go girls I can't wait until next year's track season.

Cafe Moose A Poetic Experience

Today we held the first ever 7M Poetry Cafe. The 7m Poetry team transformed our classroom into a sheik cafe as hip as any Manhattan hot spot or a classy European coffee house. The team provided a great atmosphere, refreshing beverages and thanks to Ali and his family some delicious chocolate covered strawberries. Ala'a and Nikki added coffee cake and cupcakes. The team took charge and made a great afternoon. Special thanks to all the poetry committee. Ali, Ala'a, Tina, Heather, Khurrum, Nikki, Julia and Jeff. ( I apologize if I forgot anyone). Not only was the event planned well but the poems were fantastic. We had funny ones from Jessy and Nikki, inspiring ones from Erica, and Julia and many great ones in between. It inspires me to see so many beliefs and passions pouring out of my students. i hope they continue to live by their words. Also thank you to Tiff and Heather for scanning all the poems into the computer. Awesome job 7M!

Ultimate Frisbee XD XD

Our Ultimate Experience was a lot of fun, and fast paced. Talbot Trail won our second game 5-0.
Each player got equal playing time and had a blast in the sun! Thank you coaches, and parents that came out to support their children. :):)(:(:]

7M 's Got Talent

Today at the Talbot Trail Talent show a number of 7M students showcased their impressive skills, singing, dancing and even their unique fashion senses. The theme seemed to be Mylie Cyrus as Christina braved the stage solo to belt out one of Cyrus' famous songs and a second group took on a Hannah Montana number. Erica, Cindy, Khurrum and Kathleen joined the skirt and skinny jean clad Skylar and Kyle for an unforgettable dance routine.
I was extremely impressed by the courage and talents of all seven of my amazing students. Way to go guys.

Tomorrow is our poetry cafe another way to showcase our classes awesome achievements.

Track Day

Friday was an amazing day for 7M and Talbot Trail athletes. We blazed a trail over to Sandwich Secondary and tore up the track. We won the overall title and qualified over 60 spots for the Districts this Friday. 7M had many outstanding track athletes at the meet. Nikki and Adrian throwing shot, Kyle and Shawn flying through the air at the long jump pits, Kathleen doing an outstanding job racing in an age group older, and Helal running distance in the Open category. I was so proud to watch all my current and past students competing with true Blazer passion.

Two exceptional standouts were from our very own 7M Jellyfish Clan. Ashley set the track on fire in the 100, 200 and relay as well as jumping out of her shoes at the long jump pits. She qualified for the districts in all four of her events what an amazing accomplishment. Coaches from Roseland were overheard making devious plans to get her back to their school. I will assure that that will never happen.

The second part of this tandem was Julia who amazed the crowd in all three of her middle distance events. Starting the day off by demolishing the field winning the 1500m by at least 100 m's. She hit the track again for the 400 m and didn't slow down easily finishing first. In her final race of the day Julia did it again finishing with the fastest 800m time among all 8 of the meets this year. The race officials were so amazed they even checked her spikes thinking she must be cheating. They soon realised that she was just plain "FAST".

I am so proud of all my student athletes, not only did they perform incredibly but the represented Talbot Trail with class, dignity and impeccable behaviour. Let's wish Julia and Ashley all the best at the Districts!!!!
