  1. I think Iqbal cut up the carpet because it might have been fase 1 of Iqbal's plan to escape. In the book it said before Iqbal was thrown into the tome, he was going to say somthing to everyone.

  2. I think Iqbal ripped up the carpet because he wanted to help the others go free. I think that because in the second chapter Iqbal said that he will help Fatimah escape.

  3. I think Iqbal ripped the carpet because the master has been making him work on this particular carpet day after day and he knows how valuable this carpet is to the master. He seems to be feeling very pressured and getting very frustrated to get this done. So I think Iqbal ripped it up because he wanted to make the master upset for putting him under such stress to get this carpet done.

  4. I think that Iqbal ripped up the carpet to show that he could accomplish great things and he wasn't going to let Hussian Khan use him to do his work.

  5. I think Iqbal ripped up the carpet because he wanted to show Hussein Khan that he will work only when he wants. This is showing that he wants freedom for all the slaves.

  6. I think Iqbal ripped up the carpet because he didn't want Hussain to sell the carpet because Hussain would get all the money and Iqbal would get none, so he ripped up the carpet so none of them would get the money.

  7. I think Igbal ripped up the carpet because Igbal new that no matter how maney carpets they make, or how hard they work, there familys debt will never be canclled

  8. I think Iqbal ripped up the carpet because he wanted to show Hussein Khan his anger for making them work so much and for never cancelling their debts. I think this because he KNOWS that the carpet that he ripped up was Hussein Khan's most expensive and best one, so he probably did it to make Hussein Khan mad too. If I was Iqbal, I would've done the same thing too. I also think Iqbal did that because maybe he WANTS to be thrown into the tomb so he can be far from Hussein Khan and so that he could run away from the tomb. I think this because in the carpet factory, Hussein Khan's eyes are always on the people working and since Hussein Khan's eyes are not on the tomb, he could break free easily. Also, in the beginning he always wanted to run away and even told Fatimah that, so when Fatimah thought that Iqbal mouthed something to her, I think he mouthed to her about breaking free with her. That means that in the beginning, it was all part of his plan: To run away. That is why I think he ripped up the carpet.

  10. I think Iqbal ripped up the carpet because he probably had a plane on how to escape Hussein Khans carpet factory, He wanted the foreigners to see how the children have been treated. That is why I think Iqbal ripped up the carpet.

  11. I think Iqubal ripped up the carpet becasue he wanted to get put in that room becasue in a few charpters ago iqubal asked people if they wanted to excape. So maybe Iqubal thinks that if hes in a room all by himself than maybe he can ecsape before anyone can see and tell master Huessin Khan. I know if I was gonna excapse I would want to be somwere, were nobody is gonna see and tell on me.

  12. I think Iqbal cut/ ripped the beautiful carpet because he probably wanted to cause a distraction for Fatima and the other slaves to escape and run away. I think this because the guards and Hussein Khan rushed Iqbal so no one was guarding the doors. I also think Iqbal ripped the beautiful carpet to cause a distraction becuase when Hussein Khan rushed and grabbed Iqbal, Iqbal said something to Fatima and I think he said run and escape. I also think he ripped the beautiful carpet because when Iqbal ripped the carpet, Hussein Khan had company over he wanted to show them how bad Hussein actually treats them. I finally think Iqbal cut the carpet because he didn't want Hussein Khan to treat him much different from Fatima, Karim and the other slaves, because he was making him a carpet that is made twice every year

  13. I think that he ripped up the carpet because Iqbal did that to show Hussein a message. Like maybe Iqbal is trying to show Hussein that he's not scared. I think that because before in the book it said that Iqbal was gonna try to escape, so maybe ripping the carpet is trying to show that he's not scared of Hussein. Also I think that he ripped the carpet because maybe he has a plan, to mess up more then once and let Hussein think that he's useless so they can get rid of him and when he is on the streets, he can escape from there.

  14. I think Iqbal ripped the carpet because he wanted to stay with the others to help them get out of there. I also think that he fell in love with Fatima because he always tells her stuff not the others.f there He knew that if he finished the carpet properly, he will get out of there. He liked the other and promised them they will get out, so he kept his word.

  15. I think Iqbal ripped the blue carpet to show those kids that he is not afraid of the consequences of betraying their master(Hussein khan) .And give the children hope so that he can show them that Hussein Khan can be beaten. And if those kids have hope it will be easier for Iqbal to escape with them so none of the kids will have second thoughts about it. Because if they have second thoughts they will be in there for the rest of their life in tell the debt is paid off.

  16. I think that Iqbal cut up the carpet because he refused to let Hussain Khan have the honor to present such good work and sell Iqbal`s carpet. He might also have thought that he could escape from the tomb and run away, because he was planning to run away sooner or later, and Hussein Khan probably would think that the tomb is unescapable and the tomb might not have as much supervision since it was such a dreadful place.

  17. I think that Iqbal tore the carpet to show that he was sick of working for Hassan Khan. I would feel the same way as well.

  18. I think that Iqbal ripped the carpet because he wanted to cause a distraction for the other kids that work at the carpet factory for him to get further and further from the factory. Also, I think he did that because the kids might go and save him and then they could escape from there.

  19. I think Iqbal ripped up the carpet because he knew that Hussein would never free him from his debt, no matter how much his carpet was worth. I think Iqbal thought it was unfair that the kids at the factory work hard to make the carpets, but they don't get anything in return. Iqbal might have wanted Hussein to get what he deserved, so he tore apart the carpet. He knew that Hussein was counting on him to finish his carpet, since the pattern Iqbal was making was very valuble and was difficult to create. That way, things would be even between the two.

  20. Maybe ripping up the carpet is part of the plan to escape. He might of knew that if he ripped the carpet up he would have been sent to the tomb.He might of wanted to go to the tomb because that might be where they are going to escape from or at least start the escape from. When he turned back to say something to Fatima, he might of wanted to say " This is where the escape starts, don't worry about me."

  26. I think Iqbal cut up the carpet because he knew that the carpet was worth a lot of value and that the master was obsessed with the carpet. So Iqbal cut it up probably just to annoy his master in the hope that Hussien Khan might sell Iqbal so it would be easier to escape and I think he might take the other kids too with him if he does end up escaping. -Judy

  27. I think that Iqbal tore the carpet he made because he knew that he would never reduce his families debt even if he made one of the best carpets in the world so he decided to tear it because it had no use to him. Also, he might of been making a plan to set him and fatima free.
