Irony is to be sarcastic, imitate mockery, or in this case, it's the root of word of something being unexpected. It was ironic when Max was hiding in a closet full of lab coats because it was very unexpected and because she had no idea that the Erasers would come to hunt her down. So, she had to be sneaky and furtive so the Erasers would not see her. It related to the quote "Desperate times calls for desperate measures" because she took a risk and stayed.
