    (Question 2)

I just learned how to fly. My experience was terrible. It was so hard to do. I had to flap my wings so fast. My wings are so sore. I had to sprint 100m just so I can get up in the air. When you get up in the air you CAN'T FALL!!!! I was falling every 5 seconds. The worst part was when I hit the tree. It is so hard. For angels learning, I wish you lots and lots of luck. But you wont last a second. Good Luck. I MEAN IT. :(

  3. What is the most frightful and violent bird in the book, "Maximum Ride"? The Ferruginous hawk! This hawk is a very large bird of prey and is often mistaken as an eagle because of it's dark colors and of course, size. It's wing span is about 120-150cm, making it almost twice the size of us. Usually, the female Ferruginous hawk is larger than the male one. The sound that these hawks make are very loud and harsh; KREE-AH KAAH!, and it resembles the the voice of the Herring Gull. It's habitat is mainly in the thick grasslands of North America and open, rolling land. Their behavior is very active and aggressive, because of their huge size.
I hope you learned many things about this unique bird.

  4. 2. Part 1 (The blog wouldn't let me post the whole thing at once--max. 4,096 letters, mine's 1040 words...:S sorry.)
It was THE best sensation. Yes, that's how I would describe it, a sensation. Not everyone could've had the opportunity to grow wings, much less actually have them work, but yes, it was simply wonderful.

Twelve hours ago, I was sitting on a wooden crate, caressing the feathers that were forcibly implanted into my back. I stood up abruptly and thought to myself, since I had wings that, thankfully, was in top condition, I might as well use them. As I walked through the forest into a clearing surrounded by giant sequoias, my wings kept twitching, as if they wanted to reassure me that they're still attached and that I have a reason to jump off the tallest trees in the world. I had stumbled, I remember, at the top. A slender branch had just enough stability to support my weight. Up there, I felt alone and I felt like there was nothing that mattered, and in some way, it took my breath away. Amazingly, that was what made me jump off that branch.

  5. 2. Part 2

Suddenly, fear gripped me and it felt like I was in shock. Open your wings, I had whispered myself, catch the air, use wind resistance. But by the time I finally came to my senses, the ground was merely a couple meters away. I'd braced myself for the fall and rolled myself into an upright position. My feet landed flat on the floor, white pain seared up my leg, from my heels, to my ankles, through my calves and striking the top of my knee.

I don't remember much after that, just that I lay there, curled into a ball with tears stinging my eyes and my vision slowly fading and turning black. I know I remembered that I wanted to fly, because I hadn't noticed IT while I was in fear, but now I had collapsed onto the cold hard earth blanketed with leaves bight with autumn colours and I thought about IT. What's IT, you ask? The air whipping my hair, making it feel like a crown of steamers, the whooshing sound it made as it flew by my face, the way it made me feel as light as paper and most importantly the freedom I had been longing for unknowingly. That was IT, and I knew I wanted more, which gave me the willpower I needed to dust myself off and climb that tree again.

  6. 2. Part 3

This time, I took about forty minutes climbing that tree, about four times as much as the first time. Scowling to myself, I once again heaved myself onto the exact same branch, and once again I jumped off, this time with more confidence. But yet, I wasn't able to unfurl my wings on time and crashed to the ground another time. But I was gleeful that my wings spread about a quarter of the way, taking away most of the pain caused by landing. By and by I climbed the tree and by and by I tumbled down, but each time, I was able to open my wings a little more. After the sixth time, I was truly fatigued and I leaned against the sequoia, and sighed. Glancing to my right, I caught a speck of something familiar in the middle of red and mahogany. Picking up the fragile piece of sequoia bark, I examined it.

  7. 2. Part 4

More than three thousand years old, huh? Wow, it goes back before Christ. Holding it up with delicacy, I admired the way it shimmered in the setting sun’s orange rays. Wait…WHAT?! The setting sun?! Slowly, it dawned on me that I had spent the whole day here and that same day was almost over. Gently, I lowered the piece of sequoia bark down and realized that it matched the colour of the sky. I peered up at the giant stock and wistfully started climbing it one last time. Perhaps this one last time I will fly and have a never-ending type of excitement, I thought to myself, mmm….perhaps, just maybe though. Climbing on the thin, worn-out branch, I staggered and prayed that I’d win this one battle, for I doubt that I would make it through the night with my head spinning with disappointment.

  8. 2. Part 5

Slowly, I bent my knees and prepared to lift myself from the branch one more time today and as I started extending my legs, the scrawny twig I had stepped on seven times snapped, leaving my knees to buckle and let me fall. Panic made my heart race and I noted that this was the most thrilling fall yet. Heck, there was no way I was letting this end. Grinning like an idiot, I knew this was my war to win. My brilliant white wings unfolded and light blue shadings that I never noticed before appeared, glinting in the sunset. I wasn’t done yet. Summoning all my strength, I beat them against the fluff-like wind. With speed and overwhelming joy, I shot upward and hit nothing but pure contentment. Bringing my wings up, I stayed up there, watching the trees swaying in Wick Wood and I’d sighed, my feathers rippled as the light air blew little breaths on it.

England is beautiful, New Forest national park along with it. I stayed about five or ten minutes. Curfew was at seven. You might be thinking, eleven hours of practicing for five minutes of flight? So not worth it. But here, coming from an aves-human hybrid, it definitely was.

So now, I’m lying on my bed covered with wrinkled, pink-purple sheets typing and longing to sneak out and fly again. …Nah, if there are people like us, there are probably vampires out hunting or something. Wow, that just turned the whole world upside down. Did that mean there were unicorns and zombies, too? Great. But now I’m getting sidetracked. Anyhow, the gift of flight was really comforting, because even if there was all that stuff out there, I had my powerful wings. Hmm…the gift of flight, I like the sound of that, and to all of you reading this, I sure hope you don’t have to get anything surgically implanted, but if you’re ever offered the chance to fly, take it, it will be

  10. Question 1
The Ferruginous Hawk belongs to the Buteos which is often mistaken as the eagle because of its size, proportions and behavior. The Ferruginous hawk is the largest hawk in the Buteo hawk species. The Ferruginous hawks mainly live in arid and semiarid grassland regions of North America. They mainly eat small to medium-sized mammals. the difference between a male and female is that the female is larger than the male. To make babies they lay eggs just like other birds do. This bird was often listed as endangered or threatened but for 2008 it was listed as least concerned. That concludes my summary.

  11. I chose to do question 3. I think the quote means that if your in a desperate time, such as someones life is on the line, then you have to take ricks to save them. So it means that if your in a desperate moment you have to be risky and take chances.

  12. I think the quote "desperate times call for desperate measures" is the same thing as the quote "when the going gets tough, the tough get going". These quotes to me mean that when something doesn't go your way, you don't give up but keep going. This remindes me of my speech about Thomas Edison. When he tried to invent something he failed but he never gave up and in the end he came through inventing the light bulb and so much more.

  13. 3. I think the saying " Desperate times call for desperate measures " means that when you are in a situation and there is only one thing to do about it, you have to take it since its the only thing you can do. I also think it means that if you have that last ditch effort to do something, take it, no matter what the risk is since its a last ditch effort. Desperate measures means big risks and desperate times means big problems. Thats is why I think this.

  14. Question 1:
The Ferruginous Hawk is a type of bird of prey (birds that eat animals) that lives in the semi-arid grasslands of North America. The male and female birds usually look the same and have the same markings, but normally the female is a lot bigger. Their bodies and heads are white but their legs are dark. Their wings are a brownish rust colour. Usually, the Ferruginous Hawk eats small or medium sized animals, and their diet consists of 80%-90% mammals. However, their diet actually depends on where the hawks live and what animals live there. They hunt by flying over an open area, by sitting on a perch, or by ambushing their prey outside of their burrows. The time when the Ferruginous Hawks lay their eggs depends on where they live. Hawks living in Canada usually lay eggs in April-June, while hawks living farther south lay eggs in March-May. Before, the Ferruginous Hawk was on the endangered species list, because their population had decreased due to lack of good places to live in. However, in 2008, they were on the least concern list because their population had increased. They are very similar to eagles, because the two species have similar sizes, proportions, and behavior.

    Kingdom: Animalia
    Phylum: Chordata
    Class: Aves
    Order: Falconiformes
    Family: Accipritridae
    Genus: Buteo
    Species: B. Regalis

  15. 3. I think the quote "desperate times call for desperate measures" means that when you are really in need of something even then you will need help. Even if you usually don't need help with things you should always accept help when you really need it. I think when they say this quote in the book they are referring to the fact that Max is independent as well as the rest of the flock and even then she was forced to accept help from the girl she saved because of how desperate she was for help to recover from her injury.

  16. I chose to do number , in think the quote " desperate times calls for desperate measures" means like when you want something really bad like food on a deserted island and you need food to survive. That's what desperate times means and then calls for desperate measures means like you would do anything just to get food or eat anything you can get your hands on. A text to world connection I can make is that this quote means you'd do anything, well this reminds me of the people in Africa who don't have a lot of food and would do anything to get their hands on anything. That's what I think this quote means! :)

  17. My experience to fly was amazing. I was soaring through the air, I felt the wind swooshing through my hair. It was so sureal. There were birds and airplanes flying next to me. I was so high up that I didn't know where I was. I could just forget and let go of everything and just focus on having fun. It was one of the best things that I ever did in my life. I hope to fly again soon!
